Tenth Algorithmic Number Theory Symposium ANTS-X
|
Accommodation
We are arranging room blocks at the following hotels. Neither of these is withing walking distance of the conference venue; see below for more details. To get the conference rates, call the hotel directly and ask for the Algorithmic Number Theory Symposium rate.News (updated June 12): it is important to book your hotel room as soon as possible, as prices will continue to increase and availability will continue to decrease due to Comic-Con. Currently, there are 13 rooms available in the block at La Jolla Shores; the last date to reserve at the block rate is June 22. We have exhausted the original room block at the Hilton San Diego/Del Mar; we currently have three rooms with 1 king bed for $159/night and three rooms with 2 double beds for $179/night. Also, the Clarion Del Mar Inn may have up to 5 rooms with 1 king bed (ocean view) at $150/night.
La Jolla Shores Hotel
We have reserved a block of rooms at the La Jolla Shores Hotel at the rate of $179/night. This hotel is located on the beach close to campus, and is the location for the conference banquet on Thursday. Parking at the hotel is $14/day.
We do not plan to provide transportation from LJSH to UCSD, but it is easy and inexpensive to make the trip either by taxi or city bus (number 30). The hotel also provides a limited shuttle service of its own; advance reservations are recommended. We do not recommend walking from LJSH to UCSD; it is nearly 3 miles up a steep grade. (On the other hand, the reverse trip may be quite pleasant!)
Hilton San Diego/Del Mar
We have reserved a block of rooms at the Hilton San Diego/Del Mar at the rate of $129/night for single or double occupancy. We have reserved some double occupancy rooms for funded junior participants; if you are applying for funding, you may wish to include a roommate preference on your registration form. Unfunded participants may also book rooms at the Hilton using this link.We plan to provide transportation to/from the conference site, except that no transportation back to the hotel will be provided Wednesday or Friday (there being free afternoons on those days). If you prefer to rent a car, parking is available at the hotel for $8/day; you will also have to pay for parking at UCSD (see the travel page).
More general observations
Here are some important points about accommodations in San Diego.- It is very hard to get anywhere without a car: very few pairs of points of interest in San Diego are separated by walkable distances, and public transportation is limited to a few bus routes and some campus shuttles. The only hotels within a 30-minute walk of the conference site are the Residence Inn La Jolla, Sheraton La Jolla, and Estancia. Some other nearby hotels provide shuttle service, but check this before arriving.
- It is important to book rooms early for at least two reasons. One is that summer is the high travel season in San Diego, so prices start out somewhat elevated. Another is that the second half of the conference coincides with a very large convention (Comic-Con) in downtown San Diego, which will exert further upward pressure on prices throughout the area.
- If you do decide to rent a car, you may find significant cost savings by looking for hotels a few miles away from UCSD, especially to the north (away from downtown). Also note that parking at UCSD costs $8/day.
- Many hotels near UCSD offer discounted rates for visitors. These may not be available during the summer, but make sure to ask! (The math department maintains a list of nearby hotels, but don't put too much faith in the listed prices.)
