Conference Venue
ANTS will take place in room 5614.0095 of the Feringa building on Zernike Campus, 15 minutes from the city center by bike or public transportation.
Local travel: To get to the campus by public transport, use bus lines 1, 2, 9, 15 or 171 and get off at Crematoriumlaan. On these busses, you check in and check out by tapping your debit card, credit card or phone etc. Busses do accept cash and it is not possible to buy a ticket at the bus stop. Alternatively, we very much recommend renting a bike. See https://www.antsxvii.org/travel.html for more information.
Internet: You can use eduroam if you have the appropriate credentials. If not, please email the organizers and we will provide you with guest access to the local Wifi.
Lunch: There are various lunch options on Zernike campus.
- The Food Court contains a variety of restaurant booths. Unfortunately, only two are open this week.
- The canteen in the Feringa building serves hot lunch and sandwiches.
- The canteen in the Bernoulliborg serves a variety of warm Italian lunches, as well as soups, salads, smoothies and sandwiches, all vegetarian/vegan. This canteen is operated by the very same people who catered for the reception.
- The canteen in the Linnaeusborg serves sandwiches.
- Ballersz serves sandwiches and hot lunch. Menu
About Groningen
The city of Groningen is the capital of the province of Groningen, the northernmost eastern province of the Netherlands. The largest urban center in the area (230000 people), Groningen is a relatively undiscovered and unspoiled part of the Netherlands that has kept most of its authenticity.
Groningen is one of the happiest cities in Europe, and happiest small city in the Netherlands, scoring in the top five European cities for quality of life, education, public domain, health care and air quality. Students comprise an estimated 25% of its total population and makes it the country’s demographically youngest city.
Things to do in and around Groningen
Besides having several touristic attractions of its own such as the Martini Tower or the Groninger Museum, the Forum or the old warehouses, Groningen is at most 2.5 hours away by train from Amsterdam and most other major Dutch tourist attractions. The Wadden Sea, a UNESCO world heritage site, and Lauwersmeer National Park and Fortress Bourtrange are all about an hour away from Groningen by train or bus.
Please see here for (official) touristic information. We especially recommend these cycling tours in and around the city, as well as the canal tours.
The University of Groningen
Founded in 1614, the University of Groningen comprises 11 faculties, including the Faculty of Science of Engineering, which hosts the Bernoulli Institute for Mathematics, Computer Science, and Artificial Intelligence.
